Seeking a health care dispatcher responsible for answering calls from various sources for both emergency and non emergency uses. Must be interested in working in a 24-7 environment. with flexibility to cover any 12-hour shift (day, night, weekend).


Answer phones from various health facilities requesting ambulance transportation services. These calls can be of an emergency or non emergency nature. Dispatches calls to ambulances using radio or navigation system. Communicates pertinent call information to the responding ambulance. Utilizes the vehicle locator system "tracker" to send the closest ambulance available to emergency calls. Routinely monitors the travel routes and location of ambulances to ensure compliance with status plans.


Must have current State of Michigan Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification, or the ability to obtain within first year of employment. EMT Licensure or Health Care experience preferred. Minimum of 1 year of previous dispatch or call center experience preferred. Must have good spelling skills, typing speed of 44 wpm, and ability to read a map is essential.

Ability to sit for long periods of time (12 hour shifts). Ability to function in an environment with multiple disruptions and high stress is essential. Pleasant phone demeanor and ability to take accurate information and relay it to others is essential.

If considered for employment, applicants will be required to demonstrate competencies by successfully completing pre employment testing. Medstar does a criminal background check and requires a drug screen.
